What is Google AdSense??

Google AdSense Ads

Google has a program called AdSense. You sign up for it (for free) and then you "create ads" that will go onto your website.

The creation part only consists of deciding the Ad Size and Colors, because the CONTENT of the ads is automatically determined by Google after the Ad Script is placed onto your website.

Google is very intelligent. The script that is placed onto your site will 'look around' at your text and decide what ads would compliment the topic of your website.

If your website is about Cats, ads about Pet Products, Kittens and related items will appear.

If someone is on your website because they are interested in Cats, then they will most likely click on ads that have something to do with Cats.

You are paid for every click on these ads.

You can have text ads, image ads, video ads and search boxes.  All of which will make you money when your website visitors clicks on them or performs a search on your site.

You want to create ads and layouts that blend in with your website. It looks nicer and there's a greater chance people will click on the ads if they aren't screaming "I'M AN AD, CLICK ME".

Once you place the code onto your webpage, Google will crawl your page and display ads that are relevant to the other information that is on the page.

This is where the database records come in handy. The records show what type of records they are (Physicians, Real Estate, Accountants, etc) and therefore, Google will place ads on your site that have to do with those topics.

I have chosen topics that draw ads which pay a good amount per click.  How much per click? …. Google will never tell. They have their little algorithm, click rate and pay per click secrets, but there are small things you can do to determine SOME information.

For instance, for the screenshots of my Google Account, I logged in early in the morning so that I could capture what it looks like after just one click on an ad. However, I have no idea WHICH ad was clicked on. I can determine the PAGE the visitor was on when they clicked because when I created the Google AdSense script for that page, I created a "channel" so I can view reports as to which page has which clicks. So I can see one click on the home page of the doctor site earned me $4.91 but I don't know which ad it was since different ads are shown on my site throughout the day.

The only thing you need to do with your site is GET VISITORS!! THIS is what makes you money. THESE are the people that click on your ads. You don't need them to buy anything, you just need them to click your ads.

IMPORTANT!! You are NOT ALLOWED to click on your own ads or have your friends and family do so for you. As MUCH as you may be tempted to do this, I seriously advise against it. Like I said above, Google is intelligent. They know their stuff and they will close down your account at even a hint of illegal clicks!

Just remember this...  Google is like your mom with the eyes in the back of her head. Google Knows and Sees All. Just don't do it!

With that out of the way, how DO you get people to your website and legitimately click on your ads. You need to advertise your website!

Free ways to advertise

  • eBay Listings: I use my eBay listings as a chance to advertise my websites. I may give away a free ebook and in the ebook will be a link to my websites.

  • eBay "About Me" Page:
Don't forget your About Me page on eBay. You can place links there directly to your websites.

  • Email Signature Lines
My email program (Outlook) is set up to automatically attach a signature line to all my emails. It has a link to my website. I don’t even have to think about it, my website links just go out with every email.

  • Message Boards
Do NOT just blast your website address all over message boards and think people will come. You will be banned from a lot of places for just blanatantly advertising your website. Join and contribute to discussions and use your signature line to promote your websites.

  • Advertise in related newsletters
Be selective. Search for eZines you think your web customers would read. Advertise in them.

  • Write and Submit articles to Article websites:
Just as you will be using other people's articles, you can submit your own articles to these websites.  Then other eZine authors may use your article with your information and website link in their newsletter. GoArticles.com is a popular site for this.

Just search on Google (who else?) for the term "Article Submission" and "Free Articles" and you will have more results than you know what to do with. Write a nice article and put links to your website(s) in it and submit this article to the Article Websites.  Then other people come along and post YOUR article onto their websites as well.

Paid Ways to advertise

Obviously a much faster way of getting your website around is to pay for advertising.

1.  Use Google AdWords: This is different than AdSense which I discussed above. AdWords is where YOUR ADS will appear on the right side of Google Search Result Pages and they can appear on other peoples/companies websites. You Pay Per Click for your Ads.

2.  Buy Advertising Space on other peoples websites and Newsletters

3.  Buy advertising space in newspapers and magazines.
